Osiris Therapeutics was founded in 1992 based on a stem cell technology discovered by researchers at Case Western Reserve University led by Dr. Arnold Caplan.  He recognized this technology, the mesenchymal stem cell, had tremendous therapeutic potential and, most importantly, could treat life-threatening diseases in the near term.  Osiris was focused on research and building an exceptional intellectual property position, which became a strong foundation for the future.  In 1998, Osiris treated its first patient in a clinical trial and has continued to focus on patient care.

The lead investor of the Company is Friedli Corporate Finance. Friedli Corporate Finance was founded by Peter Friedli in 1986 and is one of the leading Swiss venture capital firms. Since its inception, Friedli Corporate Finance has invested in over 170 biotechnology and technology companies, primarily based in the U.S. Friedli Corporate Finance manages several investment companies for pension funds, banks and large corporations in Switzerland. Peter Friedli is also a Director of Osiris, Inc. and the Manager of New Venturetec, a public investment company listed on the Swiss exchange.
